GREEN IDEA: Tennis Ball Recycling at Camino Real Park Tennis Courts

Partnerships at work within the City of Ventura! Recently, the Parks, Recreation & Community Partnerships partnered with the Environmental Sustainability Division to launch a new program to collect and recycle used tennis balls at Camino Real Park.

“When the Ventura Tennis Club approached the Parks department with the idea to recycle tennis balls, we wanted to devise a program to support our community’s sustainability!” said Chip Tarleton, Community Services Supervisor of Parks Recreation & Community Partnerships Department.

In November 2017, the city installed tennis ball recycling tubes, attaching them to the chain link fence at the Camino Real Park Tennis Courts.

“The pickup schedule is coordinated around need, “continued Tarleton, “Afterwards the balls are recycled into materials to build road infrastructure.”
