In his new post as Environmental Services Supervisor, Peter Shellenbarger will be working to ensure City compliance with stormwater regulations, he will oversee business and construction site inspection programs, and work closely with the City’s drainage maintenance and improvement projects.
Before joining the department, Shellenbarger worked as a consultant managing groundwater and surface water quality management programs. Shellenbarger received a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Management from the University of California, Santa Barbara. In his free time, Peter enjoys outdoor activities with his wife Lara and rescue dog, Penny. He also enjoys cooking, surfing, and cleaning (yes cleaning!).
“I learned from an early age the importance of water quality…it only takes a few sinus and ear infections to imprint the reasons why you should avoid water contact recreation after rains,” said Shellenbarger. “Implementing programs and projects that provide regional surface water quality benefits is both exciting and rewarding.”
