Picking up your pet’s waste is essential to help keep our oceans and waterways clean and safe.
Animal waste adds nitrogen to the water, and excess nitrogen depletes the oxygen needed by beneficial plants, wildlife, and fish, and may contain harmful toxins such as Giardia, Salmonella and E. coli, which can be transmitted to humans and other animals via ingesting water.
Additionally, roundworms and hookworms deposited by infected animals can live in the soil and be transmitted to other animals and humans. Plus, it’s grooooossssss to leave it on the ground.
To help make it easier for you to pick up after your pet, the Environmental Sustainability Division is providing FREE Pet Waste containers (with disposable bags) in the shape of a doggy bone that you can carry or clip to a collar, belt, bag, etc.
