RECENT CITY WASTE ASSESSMENT MAKES SURPRISING FINDS

Waste Audit Ventura

A recent waste audit of residential trash (green carts) by the Environmental Sustainability Division made some interesting discoveries! In addition to landfill bound trash, the top recyclable items that were found are paper (11%) and plastic containers (6%).

What does this mean?

While Ventura’s landfill diversion rate is an impressive 74%, this recyclable paper and plastic found during the recent waste audit indicates there is still a need to take note of what’s recyclable (or not) in order to divert more recyclables from the landfill.
